Fan Greetings to the Bothell Cougs 2008

Hello to the Bothell Football family,

I didn’t use the opportunity at the banquet this evening to express some thoughts, wishes and comments. I had a lot to say, would have taken well over my time allotment… and since there was so much eye sweating going on, I didn’t want to chance it ;)

Over the summer, Jessica, Tyler and I moved from Edmonds to Bothell. I would to express my thanks to everyone for welcoming Jessica, Tyler and myself to this wonderful place, as the sign used to say… For a day or a lifetime. The path that led me here was an interesting path to say the least.

I first met Tom Bainter when he was hired at Shorewood. I had coached with the previous coach and continued coaching there with Tom for the next two seasons before my work schedule precluded me from coaching at the high school level. I didn’t coach at all for the next 2 years(1999 and 2000), Tom’s last year at Shorewood, and first year at Bothell.

The 2001 football season my nephew was playing in the Bothell Junior Program and I volunteered to coach the team he was on, thinking I could teach them some of the stuff that the new Bothell High coach runs. I coached with Bruce Wilcox, thanks Bruce for letting me help out, I would have never imagined where that doorway would lead. I coached for 2 seasons with Bruce in the junior program, we had a couple of players that you all know; Johnny Hekker, Ben Moschel, Kyle Eidem, Patrick Ottorbech, and Chris Dan-Jumbo to name a few… It’s been a wonderful 8 years and I will miss coaching you guys.

Before the 2003 season I received a phone call from Coach Bainter asking me to join his staff again at the high school level, and I was granted permission to do so from my company. I have been on the coaching staff ever since. Thanks Tom for making that phone call, I can’t imagine where else I’d be. The football that I have been privileged to be a part of since then… WOW… unreal.

From the start, I have felt the magnetic pull of this wonderful community, I have met people that… well words can only go so far, but here goes some simple thoughts.

Tom and Kristina, thank you so much for everything I can’t begin to say…
Ted and Shelly… wow.. friends as neighbors? Who could ask for more.
Marty and Debbie… music, laughter, friendship… thank you.
Doc Lock and Kendi…. Shoot since 2nd grade? Crazy how life’s path criss-crosses…
Bill, thank you for being such a great friend… can’t wait to see you on the water.
Paul, a wealth of wisdom… I enjoy our growing friendship…
Al, your passion for Bothell is an inspiration to me… I’ll be watching you and routing you and the girls on!
Rod… you always make me feel welcome and appreciated here, thank you for that.
Clarke… the amount of time and love you have for this football team is amazing…
Del… I feel like I have known you for a lot longer than just the four years it’s been.
Melton… my friend… I am very glad I know you. Lynn or Shore, it’s a good thing we came out of the ‘Woods
Bartlette… from a player to a coach, a fun transition to watch…
The other Troy… looking forward to more good times.
Griff… D-line meeting, my house, anytime…
Woj… ditto… and you still need to let Marty and I know what we are performing at the wedding.
Dan… it’s been a pleasure getting to know you…thanks for letting Jessica help out… she cherishes it!
Matt… looking forward to it… glad to have become your friend.
Holliday… looking forward to coaching again with you… year one was fun!

One thing that I have learned, it takes a village… I have leaned on some of you to help me, and I know I’ll have to do that some more over the next few years… thank you for everything so far … and thanks in advance.

To the players… Thank you for being the way you are… a great example for my kids to see.

Sophs and Juniors… see you in the weight room!
Seniors… What an amazing run… THANK YOU!

The off-season is going to be better for the Olason’s from now on, here in Bothell! We’ll see you at some Basketball games for now, baseball in the spring, summer will come and go, after that…

I can’t wait for that first Friday night…

Coach Olason

Hey guys it Nate Proulx from down here in sunny Los Angeles.

I'm missing Bothell Cougar football more than anything else. I would kill to be watching you guys storm through the playoffs right now. Cherish every single moment that this playoff journey will bring you. Don't take anything for granted because you seniors don't have many games left. College football is nothing close to the experience that you go through in high school. Family is the key. Don't settle for a good run in the playoffs. Do anything under your will to bring home that state championship trophy. There is nothing worse than walking off that field knowing that your high school career ended in a loss. Finish the climb boys. Do it with hard work, intensity and poise. Play for your team, the community and former players who could never accomplish that one goal. Believe it or not i want it just as much as you guys. I never go a minute without thinking about the Bothell Cougars and i still feel like i am part of the team. I will be wearing my Bothell blue on saturday, just as i do on every other game day. Everyone on the football team at Occidental thinks i'm crazy, but they don't know what it's like to be a Bothell Cougar. Don't look ahead boys. The fun part is the journey; The destination will come. I miss and love all you guys more than you know.

Your BIGGEST fan,
Nate Proulx #5
