COUGARS CLAW TO TITLE: It hasn’t been easy, but Bothell has clinched the KingCo 4A Conference championship.

That achievement came courtesy of a tight 16-13 defeat of Inglemoor Friday night in the annual Spaghetti Bowl game.

The win wouldn’t have been possible if not for quarterback Johnny Hekker, who doubles as a placekicker and booted two second-half field goals to help Bothell (8-0, 7-0) recover from a halftime deficit.

“I didn’t really expect to have to kick those,” Hekker told the Seattle Times. “But it happened, and I was glad I was able to put them through.”

Inglemoor (5-3, 5-2) placekicker Anthony Arena answered with two field goals of his own while teammate Brandon Thurston scored the Vikings’ only touchdown to give his team a 13-10 halftime lead.

Bothell’s Jonathan Kirchner led all running backs with 141 yards on 26 carries, including a 1-yard scoring plunge in the second quarter to help Bothell to its fourth league crown in six years.
