Greetings

NOTE: If you have fan mail that comes to you that would be encouraging for the team, send it along via email and I will post it. We need to express appreciation even when it doesn't feel good. It is a lot more encouraging than the trash on the blogs. Click here to mail Webmaster.
To my favorite team, our Blue Train, our Bothell Cougars,

Being away from Bothell football was possibly one of the largest changes I had in going away to college.  I was able to attend the homecoming game and enjoy the atmosphere I lived for in high school.  As a band member I was part of the intricate and beautiful atmosphere of those friday night lights and this year I missed it so much.

I kept up with the team by reading Seattle Times on the internet and my dad kept me up to date during every game, sending me the score and talking football, telling me how the boys did, who got hurt, who did well, how we looked.  Johnny, you made me so proud and glad to be a teammate of yours in track last year, made me wish I got to know you better.  This season was incredible.  Incredible and emotional and so filled with love from the community.  Coming home for Thanksgiving I saw the amount of Bothell support around downtown, around businesses and on cars and in the windows of houses.  It made me remember the 9 OT game where the town came out to watch and cheer on those boys.

You are all dedicated and hard-working, you all poured your heart and soul into this team.  We all knew that.  Bainter is the greatest coach we could ever ask for in this program, at Bothell High.  I know congratulations are bittersweet but nonetheless, you have done us proud.

By some miracle of Oregon television channels I was able to watch the State championship down here; it was amazing to see my team again, to see the sea of blue and white and hear the band in the Tacoma Dome.  It made me miss you and wish I was home to see it all live again.  It hurt to watch us lose again, and I knew it hurt even more for you than I could ever imagine.  But that doesn't make me love this team any less, and it makes me miss it more.  Another season over and I know you're already looking ahead to 2008.  I wish you luck; know that I will always be cheering for you, whether in the stands or in another state, my heart will always be with Bothell football.

Congratulations on another wonderful season!

The sting of that last disappointment is something that will go away little by little. Of course you’re feeling it now, but it really was just one day. Pretty soon that one day won’t be in the forefront so much as all the other great days that making the choice to be a part of Cougar Football brings.

Bothell is not our home town. My husband and I didn’t grow up here or go to BHS or Inglemore or any other local school. But how lucky were we to end up here? Where I did grow up, there were a series of scandals involving the football coaches so I was leery about the whole football thing. But we kept hearing such good things about Tom and the other coaches and I gave in. In the end being a Bothell Cougar has been one of the very best things in my son’s life and in our lives as a family. Always remember that you were so lucky to be a part of something special.

While we really enjoy seeing you win football games, the thing we really, really enjoy most is seeing your accomplishments as you grow into good men. You might not realize it, but there are a lot of people watching you and rooting for you because you’ve touched their lives, sometimes in very small ways, and made a big impression. To name just a few: I think of Theo when he first started football and then look at him now. Wow! I think of talking to Patrick and Trey as starry-eyed sophomores. I think of Boone coming over to lift weights in our garage to make sure he got his lifting in. Dedication! I think of funny stories I’ve heard about Ben. And of course I root for Mike, even though I’ve never even talked to him, just because he’s #52 (I love that number!). I still don’t know the names of all the positions, but I know all your names.

The bottom line is that you guys make Bothell feel like home. Again, how lucky were we to end up here and how lucky are we all to be part of the Cougar family?

We can’t wait for Friday night!

Kirsten Risden (Connor’s mom #52 ‘06 season)

Hats off to the Bothell Cougars Football team! As a band member parent I have followed the team over the last 3 years and have been thoroughly entertained and inspired by your stellar displays of athleticism and teamwork. I’ve come to appreciate the players’ high discipline, work ethic, and team-first mentality. I’ve seen how one player’s grit, determination, and extra effort can inspire a whole team. I’ve also come to appreciate the importance of the Cougars’ team camaraderie, and the acknowledgement you give your fans. You made us feel like part of the family.

I’ve witnessed some thrilling, nail-biting games such as the win against Ferris and, of course, last season’s incredible 9 OT win against Pasco. I also saw and felt the disappointment and heartbreak of last Saturday’s loss.  Here is where I want to make my most earnest appeal to the players. DO NOT feel that you let us, your fans, down. We couldn’t have asked for more as you led us as far down the train tracks as we could go, and not just once, but an amazing two years in a row! Neither Oak Harbor nor L & C can claim that.

We, your fans, have seen you come through in those intense gut-check situations time and again. We KNOW you’re winners. We also know you’re the best, despite what the final score was on the one game when things just didn’t go your way.

Don’t feel that your amazing run was for naught just because you didn’t win the last game. Not only did you set new school records, but I’m sure the coaches have learned plenty from your great season, which will no doubt contribute towards a BHS State football champion team in the near future.

Thank you, Bothell Cougars, for the wonderful memories. I know I’ll continue to follow and root for the football team in years to come even though I’ll no longer have a child attending Bothell High.

Duncan Hurkett

How can I express my gratitude to the best football team and program around? I can tell them that the highlight of the Fall has been going to all the football games, no matter where they were. The excitement in the air. The pride you feel when you tell people that you are from Bothell and they actually know where that is and comment that you sure have some fantastic football team. The way the whole Bothell community has gathered together around this team is remarkable. I know that the boys are hurting. I hurt for them too.  I have never had a child in the football program at Bothell. I have been a parent at BHS for 10 years, a band mom. This is my last as a parent at BHS but I will not stop being a Bothell Cougar. I look forward to next year and the next...... Keep your chins up high Cougars. Be proud. You are the best! Thank you for the fantastic ride on our blue train.Karen Kohler

I do not know any of the boys on the Bothell team personally, but I am nevertheless a big fan!  It has been great following your team this year.  These boys are obviously very dedicated to Bothell football, but more importantly, it is apparent that they are all very dedicated to each other as a family.  They have worked and played very hard together.

I want to congratulate each and every one of them on their great season.  It takes a lot of talent, determination, hard work and luck to have a season like this.  Players, families and coaches...you have all done such a great job!

I can not begin to say that I know how it feels to have lost this last game, but I know it hurts.  Hold your heads up guys...eventually it will not hurt quite so much and you will be able to remember all the great moments of this season.

YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!  You will all go far in your lives, whether that means another year of high school football, college or whatever you end up doing.  You all obviously have what it takes to be great in all that you do.

To each and everyone who makes up the Bothell Cougar
Football Team,

Thank you for sharing yourselves and your 2007 season
with us! You have brought friends, family and the
community even further together. You are strong young
men, disciplined and dedicated. You are leaders, full
of strength and endless spirit. You are the best! GO
COUGS.

Brenda O'Leary-Buescher
I watched every play last night like I have watched every play of no other game. I saw your son and all the others work so hard and make such great plays.

I too am in mourning at the loss. But it says to me that what lays ahead for these young men is greater than a State Championship in football. I am so very proud of these young men.

I would like them to know that they are a great team and individually as well as a team they are in no way losers. I saw how you felt at the end of the game and I cried with you. As the years pass and the heartache at the loss lessens you will come to see that from it good tings will come. Though it may be impossible to see now this trial of spirit will strengthen you and you will become so much greater from the experience You will embrace and savor every success and failure that come because this is life and life is the great gift. You young men clearly know the meaning of big success at a young age. Look at all you have accomplished. You have inspired so many people around the world and your impact will be felt in uncountble ways and places.

Personally I want you to know that I am inspired by you. Your dedication and clarity of spirit make me want to be a better photographer for all who I serve. I too know the glory of success and the pain of loss. When I am up against the big challenges of my life, and there are several, I think about you and the fabulous times we have spent together and the times I have celebrated your wins and the times I have cried over your losses and expecially I remember standing on the sidelines and trying to keep photographing in great paiin as you palyed 9 rounds of overtime with Pasco. In the end the pain is nothing compared to the awesome feeling of being part
of something very, very special in history. This is what your team means to me. Though I know you are now just coming out of the shock and the grieving proccess is beginning. Remember the great times, the wins the celebrations and most of all remember your friends and teammates and support each other and look forward to maany great successes that await you in the future.

Thanks for the memories!

Your fan and servant

Michael J McGillis

I know that things didn’t go the way you had hoped on Saturday and it will take time for you to remember what an amazing season you had and how much you all accomplished as a team.  But I hope that day comes quickly for you because you are an incredible group of young men.  I am so proud of you all.  Over the course of the season I was continually impressed by how each and every one of you stepped up and played your hearts out - for each other.  Your commitment and love for each other is something that no one can take away from you and is worth far more than you can imagine.

I hope you know how much all of us in the community love and support you as well.  Even though we may not know some of you personally, we have come to know and love you, from watching you interact with each other, from meeting your families in the stands and watching you leave it all on the field week after week.

Words cannot express how proud I am to be a part of the BHS community...you have made a convert of this class of ’85 IHS grad. I want to be a Bothell Cougar!

God bless you all,
Melissa Lundy

Sister Rita
Sister Rita from just outside Philadelphia Pennsylvania. She knit 270 of the sweaters she is wearing for each of the adult Hekkers.

She prays for the team each week with the nuns at her convent.
  Dear Johnny and team,
Let us ask God our Father to grant us the grace and strength to continue to play as a team.  Let us not be interested in individual stats but the whole picture. Let our mental awareness be so that we are attuned to each play and not be mentally lax that will cause us to perform any movement that will cause a penality. May we play with determinitation and an awareness of what my call is for each  play.  May the defence control the oppositions running game,. May we put pressure on the quarterback. Mean while the offense must play with confidence and show that by their blocking and protection of Johnny that he will be able to find the open receiver, or complete the hand off to the running back. Remember always to help keep us from losing our selfcontrol and commit a personal foul. Our goal is to always to be focused and aware of how to play the game. If we do all of this with the right intention then we will know that we have played our best.
We ask your strength Lord to be in us and about us so we will be aware that you are working through us and help us to complete the task at hand. To your name be glory.
                       Go Team.
                        Love and prayers,
                         Sister Rita
I have been a fan of the Cougars all year and can't wait each week to see the outcome of the game. I love the web site.

My good friend is Mickey Nichols and we played high school football together at LaFollette High School also located in Tennessee in the 50's. His grandson, Boone Nichols plays for Bothell.

Since I first saw the web site I have been hooked. I hope they win the state championship tonight.

My home is Lake City, Tennessee, which is about 20 miles north-east of Knoxville, Tennessee and the University of Tennessee.

Go Cougars,

I just want to say wow, another great season Cougs! You have made the community of Bothell very proud. I moved two years ago to Georgia, and now to Alabama and have not missed a minute of the news via the Seattle Times or by the cougar website. Every Saturday morning I check to see what the results of the Friday night game was. I seriously get so excited to read about you guys. I did get the opportunity to fly to Seattle for some family business and was able to see the great game against Eastlake. It felt sooo great to be back home and be in the Friday night lights of Bothell again! The best memory was losing my voice for three days after returning home and explaining to my co-workers it was worth every strained vocal chord! So, here’s to the men in blue and I wish you the best Saturday night. Your very loyal fan and mom…

Moe from the Phillipines
Hello,
My name's Moe and I'm from the Philippines. I was in Washington for a couple of months on business back in September. A colleague of mine, Cheryl Reed, took me to a Bothel game one weekend and I must say, I've never experienced anything quite like it. Everything about that night was amazing
I'm back home now, only this time, I have stories about Astroturf and marching bands and the stuff you shake to make your hands warm with me.
So here's to more yards, first downs and touchdowns. More importantly, more power to you guys! (I attached a picture just to prove it.)Thanks,
